Students begin this project by selecting a black and white image with a good value scheme. They are then directed to deconstruct the original image by cutting it into slices and re-assembling them to transform the image into a textural abstraction. After the image has been transformed into an abstract design, students can begin to enhance the image for visual effect. In the image above, the student scanned the transformation into a digital format and manipulated the color. The student worked with the colors to enhance the visual power of the image through advancing and receding color.

In the image above, the student decided that the value scheme of the original was very dramatic and stayed with the value scheme rather than introducing color.
